Chapter 227

Waterloo, IA - The John Livingston Chapter

About Our Chapter

EAA John Livingston Chapter 227 is a diverse group of aviation enthusiasts committed to promoting general aviation through our many and varied activities and events the Chapter sponsors each year. Our Chapter is open to any person with an interest in aviation, however, many members are pilots with ratings from Private Pilot to Commercial and some are also CFIs and CFIIs.  We encourage family memberships which include spouses and children under 18 and hope everyone in the family will be involved in our activities and events.

Our Chapter actively strives to promote general aviation and develop friendships and a fraternal spirit amongst aviation enthusiasts. We support the EAA and assist government agencies and programs related to aviation.  We are a strong supporter of the EAA Young Eagles Program which provides young people, ages 8 to 17, an opportunity to learn about aviation and experience a free ride in aircraft piloted by experienced EAA members. Our Chapter has flown over 2000 children to date.

We promote and encourage aviation safety through education, design, construction, restoration, and operation of all types of aircraft. Our members have completed or are currently building a wide variety of experimental aircraft. These projects include a Taylor Monoplane, Cozy, LongEZE, RV-4, RV-6, Kitfox, Avid Magnum, Mountain Eagle, Piel Diamant, BD4, Rotoway Exec, Mustang II, and Zenith Zodiac. Several of our members have restored classic airplanes and others have built a variety of ultralight aircraft. We have members with balloon and glider pilot licenses and also some skydivers in our Chapter.

Our Chapter has a number of aviation events throughout the year. The first Saturday of each month we gather for breakfast and fellowship. The third Tuesday of each month is our regular Chapter business meeting followed by a program. Annual events include a Chapter picnic, a chili supper, and our Christmas party. Other events include: summer hangar breakfasts, group fly-outs, field trips, and Young Eagles Day. Members also enjoy a subscription to our Tower Talk newsletter and easy access to aviation and Chapter news through our website.
